Kerrick Elementary Library: Welcome

Happy summer to Kerrick students and families! I am sending a paper home inside your child's report card envelope that has important information with resources that your child can use for fun learning activities this summer. I also have it here in case you can't find that copy.

Summer Reading Program

Louisville Free Public Library-  Read ten books to earn a free backpack and free coupons for fun activities you and your family can enjoy during summer vacation!  Stop by any branch to sign up for the summer reading and  cultural pass program or you can sign up online ( https://lfpl.beanstack.com/reader365 ).  Please see the information also provided from the public library about their program. You can also view the information online at https://www.lfpl.org/summerreading.

VIP- Kerrick recognition for doing summer reading-  As well as getting the free backpack and coupons from the LFPL, students will also be recognized when they come back to Kerrick in the fall and receive a special surprise reward! * Students can either use the reading log below or they can do 10 online book responses instead of this written copy to count for their summer reading log. See the Bookworm Book Response tab on my Kerrick Library website (jcps.libguides.com/kerricklibrary) to do the online book responses. Your child will need their login that is attached to this copy I am sending home with them. Please keep this login info in a good spot where it won’t be lost.

* They can also do the old version of the Bookworm book response if they lose the login info I sent home with this letter.

Students can read:

• books they have at home
• books they check out at the library
• books they read online (see my website jcps.libguides.com/kerricklibrary on the Online Books tab for plenty of reading platforms they can read on for free)
• books they check out on the public library website (https://lfpl.overdrive.com/library/kids) or on the free app called Libby. They just need their library card number and password (go to your nearest public library location to get a card or to get help remembering their password) to check out books this way.

* Can you read more than 10 books for summer reading? Absolutely! Reading is the number one activity that children can do to help them to continue to grow and to help them to be successful in school and in life.
