Barret Annual Reports: 2015-16

Annual Libray Report 2015-16

The data was collected from August 2015-March 2016.

Librarian: Hope Cooke

Highlights/Overview

*The year started out with an inventory of the library on August 24, 2015. The information gathered was used to cross check the collection and identify any lost items.

*From September until March 2016, I weeded/discarded fiction material that was outdated or worn out.

*I have a partnership with Barnes and Noble bookstore. I had an author visit. Mr. Tyler Whitesides came to our school on September16, 2015 to promote reading, and literature. I hope to continue this partnership in the future. We have had a partnership for the last two years.

*We have had two book fairs. The first was Scholastic, It was November 16- 20, 2015. The second book fair was the Barnes Noble book fair on March 4 through March 6, 2016.

* This year at the Barnes & Noble book fair, we had student spot light events. The cast of the drama club performed scenes from the Lion King and Emily Lancaster sang in the cafe.

* In February 2016, Ms. Sade Graves, the librarian at the KY School for the Blind, and I started a collaborative book club. Students from each school will read the same book and have a book discussion party. The Book club involves three meetings. There is an introduction meeting (March 21, 2016) the book club event (April 28, 2016) and an afterschool field trip to the KY School for the Blind (May 23, 2016). This is our first time to collaborate and we hope to gain insight, grow, and develop a partnership for more book clubs to come.

*One of the biggest projects that I worked on this year was the new Barret Library website. I developed the website over the summer of 2015. It was launched at the start of the school year in August 2015. I maintain the web site through at the school year with updates, events & calendar information, new records, book suggestions, and data bases for student research. The teachers and students like the website a lot. It really helps with research.  See Library Website stats chart. It has more activity than the old OPAC website.

Budget

Money is budgeted for supplies, A.V. Equipment, magazines, and books.  The library purchases twenty magazines. These are used for teaching supplements and student leisure reading. Books are purchased through Perma Bound and Jr. Library Guild. Jr. Library Guild books are highly reviewed and curriculum related.  It includes a History, Science and Social Studies book.  The rest of the books fit into a genre category such as “mystery, fantasy, etc.”  It is a set of twelve books that come monthly to the school. Perma Bound books have library binding, which handles the high use. The PTSA donates to the library to buy books. The last two years that PTSA money has been spent on Nonfiction curriculum content books.
