Reading and Literacy Initiatives included...
UFLI
Implementing programs like UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) can be incredibly beneficial for nurturing students’ reading skills. The Librarian assisted with UFLI implementation in classrooms and with data documentation.
ELA (English Language Arts)
Reinforcing ELA literature within the library curriculum increases student's retention of information. ELA subjects and literature were used to expand and encourage long term retention of information and to allow students to participate in a deeper investigation of topics using library resources.
Family Literacy
The Literacy Night was a exciting way to engage both students and their families, creating a vibrant community around reading and learning. The Librarian had a presence at the Fall Into Literacy Night in November 2024 to promote information and fun ways to encourage reading. In person orientation events at the beginning of the school year, as well as, posting literacy and circulation information on the Trunnell Libguides, helped promote reading.
Collaborating in Classrooms Daily
The "push-in" model, where support is seamlessly integrated into the classroom, ensures that students receive consistent and focused instruction every day. This was incorporated daily into the Trunnell Librarian's schedule with the 5th grade team.
These initiatives not only enhance literacy skills but also cultivate a genuine love for reading and learning!
