Archives Middle Schools: Frederick Law Olmsted North

Official Name: Olmsted Academy North

Year Opened: 2008

The Frederick Law Olmsted Academy opened in 2008 when Southern Leadership Academy (formerly Southern Junior High/Middle School) merged with Iroquois Middle School. Southern became Olmsted North. Olmsted North educates boys and its other campus, Olmsted South, educates girls in single-sex classes. Southern Junior High School was opened on six acres of land purchased by the Louisville city schools at Ashland and Bellevue Avenues in the Beechmont neighborhood. Two years later, in 1930, additional land was purchased to add a playground and space for portable classrooms. Southern became a Leadership Academy in 2002.
