Official Name: Slaughter Elementary School
Year Opened: 1967
Slaughter Elementary is named for Horace B. Slaughter, a Jefferson County school administrator and former board member. Mr. Slaughter was a businessman with a local tobacco company for many years. In 1944 he was elected to the Jefferson County Board of Education. He resigned from the board in 1947 to accept an administrative position as Business Director for Jefferson County Public Schools. He retired in 1967, the year Slaughter Elementary School opened.
