The mission of the school library media program is to ensure that students and staff are effective users of information.
Funding is currently $7,300 which is approximately $7.30 per student. The national standard is approximately $10 per student.
The library media center is able to add additional funds through book fairs and book fines to replace damaged books. Additional funds this year have added over $3,200 worth of books to the school library.
Purchasing new books is driven by student needs and based on collection analysis, reviews, requests, and support of our MST program. Last year, many books were purchased to support the new science standards. As a program administrator, I work to analysis the print and electronic collection for current and relevant material that supports the curriculum. An inventory is completed every other year.

Building the learning environment
In addition to building a collaborative environment, the LMS has a role in promoting reading for learning, personal growth and enjoyment. The library media center can be a place for students to learn how to enjoy reading and also a place to provide programming to address knowledge gaps based on standardize tests. Last year the LMC circulated 9,980 books, meaning we put a book in a kid’s hand every seven minutes! The LMC also helps teachers teach by teaching technology and providing resources that improves student instruction. The LMC is a learning space that focuses on student learning and can go beyond the walls of the LMC through electronic books and resources via the library web site.
