Official Name: Binet School
Year Opened: 1961
Binet School originally opened as a private school for children with learning disabilities. It was named for Alfred Binet, the famous French psychologist who was a pioneer in the psychological study of children. The school was founded by Dr. Dorothy Simpson, a professor of education at the University of Louisville. Binet originally was located in the Douglass Boulevard Christian Church. It was absorbed by JCPS in 1978 and its focus was changed from learning disabilities to multiple handicapped units. It then relocated to a wing of Parkland Middle School. In 1979 Binet moved to its current location in a wing of Seneca High School. It serves students aged 5 to 21.
